FREQUENTly Asked Questions

What does “Rapua” mean?

1

“Rapua” means to seek, pursue, or explore with intention. It reflects our commitment to pursuing meaningful outcomes for our people, our communities, and the kaupapa we serve. Rapua is about seeking solutions grounded in Te Ao Māori and walking alongside others in that journey.

Where are you based?

2

Rapua Māori is Waikato-based, currently working across Hamilton, Cambridge, and Morrinsville. Being locally grounded is important to us, while still remaining connected nationally.

Do you work nationwide or only in specific regions?

3

Yes, we work nationwide.

For event-based kaupapa such as wānanga, workshops, or event facilitation, we are available to travel. For ongoing advisory or support, we encourage connecting online to ensure consistency, accessibility, and sustainability for our partners.

Do you provide facilitation and wānanga support?

4

Āe, we do.

We design and facilitate wānanga, hui, workshops, and strategic sessions that are engaging, culturally grounded, and outcomes-focused. Our facilitation approach honours tikanga Māori while ensuring practical and meaningful progress is made.

Do you offer research and insights grounded in mātauranga Māori?

5

Yes.

Our work is informed by mātauranga Māori, kaupapa Māori methodologies, and lived community experience. We ensure that research and insights are not only academically sound but culturally anchored and relevant to the people they serve.

Can you help our organisation engage meaningfully with Māori communities?

6

Yes.

We support organisations to move beyond surface-level engagement toward genuine, respectful, and mutually beneficial relationships with Māori communities. This includes guidance on cultural capability, partnership approaches, and ensuring engagement is grounded in integrity and accountability.

Do you provide post-project support?

7

Yes.

Closing a kaupapa correctly is important. In te ao Māori, how you close something matters just as much as how you begin it. We provide post-project support, reflection, and follow-up to ensure relationships are maintained and outcomes are sustained beyond the event or engagement.

How do you ensure sustainable outcomes?

8

We focus on building internal capability, not dependency.

Our approach is strategic and future-focused — strengthening leadership, embedding cultural frameworks, and ensuring systems are in place so that progress continues long after our engagement ends. Sustainability means the kaupapa can stand confidently on its own.

Do you offer an initial consultation?

9

Of course!

Leave us a message and we will give you a call to arrange a time to meet — either in person or via Zoom. Our initial kōrero helps us understand your needs and explore how we can best support your kaupapa.

Can you support me to write and deliver a mihi?

10

Āe mārika!

We support individuals, leaders, and teams to develop and confidently deliver their pepeha, mihi, whai kōrero and/or karanga in a way that is authentic and culturally grounded. This includes guidance on structure, pronunciation, meaning, and delivery.

Whether you are just beginning your reo journey or looking to strengthen your confidence in formal settings. We ensure the process is respectful, personalised, and aligned with tikanga.
